Progress on the Relic Chapel

Brother Nicholas has taken some great photographs of the work in progress on the Relic Chapel. Please view them online by clicking here.

As you will see the ceiling is far advanced. Some of the pictures are shown as half cleaned which really makes the difference apparent.

The cupboards have been prepared and the wiring is going in soon. The lighting, both of the chapel itself and of the relic cupboards should be very impressive.

Mass of Thanksgiving for the Beatification

On Sunday, 12th July, we celebrated a Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving for the beatification of our Cardinal, John Henry Newman. Fr Paul Chavasse, Provost of the Birmingham Oratory was the preacher, and our own Provost, Fr Robert Byrne was the celebrant. Fr Ignatius Harrison, Provost of the London Oratory was robed and in the sanctuary. It was truly the thanksgiving Mass of the English Oratories for the beatification of their founder and father.

Reports and photographs of the Mass are available on our own website or here at the New Liturgical Movement blog.

Cardinal Newman to be Beatified

Our Holy Father Pope Benedict today signed a decree recognising the miraculous cure attributed to the intercession of John Henry, Cardinal Newman, the founder of the Oratory in England.

This is an answer to the unceasing prayers and work of many people over many years and is a cause of tremendous joy, not only to the Oratory but to the Church in England.
